the burrow opens...

I'm here to announce that a new section at the Kindly Owl is now opened. It is called 'The Burrow' and it is where you will find vintage and gently worn odds and ends type things. It's for things I see that others may be able to enjoy and it's also a purging place for me and the things in my home, closet, etc. I've often thought about doing what so many other neat etsy shops have done by selling secondhand wares. I look at how inviting and wonderful many of these shops look but have never known if I could or would fully commit to such an endeavor. Not only that, but I didn't want to open yet another shop (as it is I have too much going on often times). I thought it would be fitting to have a nook and cranny within my new shop for just such an idea.
I have listed a few things so far, nothing in a cohesive theme but like I said, odds and ends.

pyramid inspirations...

happy/thankful for...

+ flower fairy portraits and a stick bug portrait (twigs and googly eyes!) Nat made for her teacher
+ earth day; making coffee ground fossils with leaf imprints with Natalie and lighting candles at night for a little earth hour before sleep
+ finding more and more inspiration, through people, through lives and through stories
+ sending treats to a very creative and nature loving family and being the giver of inspiration to a sweet fauna
+ making a little change of my own and changing finding moths in my pockets to ursula the bear (for more sentimental and creative reasons) and liking the 'stories' I find to share there
+ a text message from my husband telling me how much he appreciates the things I think to do with our daughter ♥
+ winning my first team challenge with Indie Free Spirits, getting a little goodies in the mail as a prize and having my etsy shop badge and interview posted on both the Indie Free Spirits Team blog and on Mermaid's Closet
+ drawing a lot more (again) and finishing the above untitled piece. I still do not know what to title it but I will share that it was inspired by Mathyld and her decision to become 'under the pyramids'

consolidation...

the owl's daughter

I've decided to consolidate.
I have too many places and I am not sure I can keep stretching myself.
I've decided to boil things down and stay here and at dreamwidth.

I will no longer update owlacrobat at livejournal with duplicate entries
and littlebighead will just be directed this way since I share all my art here anyway.

I feel good about the decision, I will visit my friends at livejournal from time to time
but I just needed to make things a bit easier.

In other news, I made my first tincture and sweet herbal oil today! Pictures will be posted soon :)

so much goodness...

magpies and apples

I've been busy this week and have wanted to post and share so many things. Those who know me, know that i am almost everywhere and have other blogs/journals as well. I have deleted/ended some (like pretty little stars on vox and the secret cabinet at soup) and I am trying to streamline and condense.

I have started Magpies and Apples, my not-so-secret secret place for some things shared here and maybe a few other, deeper things or things that I feel might not completely fit here. I just posted a great entry on some herbal goodness that some of you may find of interest. I have mentions of: owlchemy, lilith's apothecary, for strange women, smallflower, and others too. So, i invite you to take a look! Feel free to comment and visit me there often too!

what was left there

Wednesday morning and the girl and I are doing much better since we caught a little summer bug of a cold (and a bit of a fever for her). The camera I had been so graciously loaned I think really did breathe it's last and I finally uploaded the last few pictures that were still on it. I don't know what I will do with out a camera, especially because I like to remember things and share things. Hopefully I won't suffer too much and hopefully this blog won't either :) With that said, the last photos from the little red camera that I would like to share :)

from karen davis karendavis.etsy.com

I won a great blog giveaway a few weeks ago from Karen Davis, the wonderful and magical mind behind her Moonlight and Hares artwork. She has such a lovely blog and I couldn't believe I won! She sent delightful cards with wonderful storytelling art from Roger la Borde (and I like that his cards are printed on paper from managed Scandinavian Forests) along with this beautifully made wooden polar bear hanger complete with little buttons and bells. It's perfect for my little bubelah who of course, is my little polar bear! It is in her room now :)

the social cellar

I also made a little purchase last week from The Social Cellar and I was so pleased with their presentation. I absolutely love my necklace and earrings and have been wearing them both since!

I wish I had better photos but maybe another time :)

And last, a few drawings I have done as of late. The first is the moon, playing with her dear animal constellation friends.

the moon at play

This has been tea stained and fire burned around the edges. I really enjoy the effects it makes. The second piece is a little summer sprite. I think she is sweet faced and would make a cute little doll, if only I really knew how to sew! I would whip up one of these little fairies right away! This is a close up of the drawing, which is also fire burned. Both pieces are in the etsy shop.

I've also started up an artfire shop, to see how it is. I've put up several of my first postcards there. If you are interested, it is at littlebighead.artfire.com.

tea and totoro!

tea tea tea...

oh tea, how i love thee!! a friend of ours was nice enough to send me a whoooole lot of teas to try out for her company. she also sent me three bamboo trays that all the tea packets fit perfectly into. i feel so blessed when others know me and understand who i am and the things i like. it's also a wonderful feeling when they understand the imagination of a child and really go out of there way to get them something amazing. she sent all these lovely japanese things to natalie as well including an awesome totoro mug. it came in a cool green box with an illustration of mei's straw hat on top (i saved it)!

a totoro mug for her

mei's hat (from totoro)

i haven't seen the movie in awhile and i suppose it's that time to bring it out again. it always seemed more like a spring/summer film for me. what i haven't seen in a long time is howl's moving castle which is fantastic! nat never wanted to see it though because when we first got it she was a toddler and walked in during an intense scene. i think she could completely handle it now but i need to just have it on one day so she can just happen upon it.

also, i had originally started journaling at livejournal and then moved here to blogspot. i think i will be cross-posting again from there to here so that i can keep up with friends i have made over there as well. so, if you have a livejournal, i am owlacrobat if you would like to add me. the content will be the same and i would love to still have some friends around, capesh?! :)

blinded by bright twinking stars...

new finds on etsy that have me seeing stars...i'm so in love with these...

reading the stars from miniature rhino.

man in the moon by little black forest.

whilst you are at war, we still exist by the black spot books (absolutely love this shop!)

other beauties feed my yearning old soul at the moment...

a delightful barn owl tea set from louche lab, just ready for me to pour some delicious morning, afternoon and evening tea into it, yes, i would use this set for the rest of my life...

i would live everyday in this ginger and black patch wrap skirt from sarah clemens clothing. it has such a wonderful old time feel with a little strange whimsy that is perfect for me...

how awesome is this little amber tinted bottle necklace from rag trader. i could out my favorite little fragrant tea leaves in it!

some medicinal tummy coat tea from flying bird botanicals might help me a bit with some of my uneasy stomach issues...

this tisane waterlilly loose leaf tea from liliths apothecary might help with those issues as well...

i love all of shaving kit supplies moth creations, including this one, mothra made from quilted muslin...

oh there's more, always so much more, including stuffed creatures, botanical and herb seeds, tiny fragrant pillows. you can view them all at my favorites. it seems like i am constantly adding because there are some really talented and crafty people out there.

i've also began to peruse around artfire a bit to see what catches my fancy there.

i really want to begin my garden and begin to make my own botanical goodness like teas, soaps, oils and such too. natalie can't wait either so we have our names for our little 'hopefully one day' business endeavor. i love the name she has, which of course, would be a subdivision of mine. she wants to make teas and soaps for the little ones. i really hope we do this. i really hope to engage her sense of creativity and exploration too.

well, off i go to do some domestic duties. i'm hoping to be able to paint and create somethings later on too. before i go, i invite you all to help me begin to new groups for sharing: herbs and roots for recipes and good cooking and the flower apothecaire, a group to correspond with my tumblr of the same name (and the soup.io group, herbology). please join if you are interested and we can get the ball in motion. ♥

p.s. happy st. patrick's day!

sundays are for mandrakes, and other things...

a beginning of my ghost for a ghost for astulabee's flickr project. it is suppose to be anonymous but i think with some of the entries, you are going to figure out who did them based on their writing and/or drawings styles if you are familiar with them. so this one is my 'secret' but that's all i will show, at least for now :)

now, if you have been keeping up with the secret cabinet, i have had mandrakes on the mind a lot lately. today, i finally managed to draw one, and inspired by alicia carrier's blog, ten dollar drawings, i drew him on brown paper (which i think suits him best). i will most likely be making him a part of my new field-discover-wonder type journal, the diary of found things and such. natalie loves the mandrake and wants a mandrake doll. i have sewn anything in years and haven't used my sewing machine in so long, i have forgotten how to use it. maybe i will do something by hand. it will be crude most likely, but i think she will love it just the same, so we will see!

of course, a little photo of natalie, taken on friday at borders bookstore, wearing her dr. seuss horton the elephant ears she made at school. she totally looks like she is advertising this izze green apple soda, but then again, it is her favorite drink whenever we go to border's!

oh, and by the way, i invite youto start your own soup.io where i have the secret cabinet. i need to have some friends on there, some people i know. use it to to spill your secrets and share your imagination. it's sort of my online, visual, scrapbook diary of sorts. i have my twitter feed, my blip.fm and a few other feeds that go directly there. i want to friend people that i know (like you emily!) and i have started a group on there too called ephemera. so, if you are interested, it's quite simple and of course, i would love to have you there. okay, last time i am going to beg :)

wednesday wednesday...

My_picture_20_1_1

i've been meaning to come here and put a proper post.
these past few days i've bit a bit consumed with my twitter
(know that if i am not blogging here, i am most likely micro-blogging there).
sometimes small thoughts are all i can muster; you know those days.
a bit more contemplation, or at least for me.

also in the past few days, i've been mulling over a new book i got this weekend
the illustrated encyclopedia of healing remedies by c. norman shealy MD, PhD.
i've just been so enthralled with natural remedies, herbs, teas and such.
i've been mentally making a wish list of what i would like to purchase from
such places like mountain rose herbs, bach flower remedies and smallflower.
i would love to build up my own little herb and tea cabinet and to have a little
garden too. maybe one day...

i've also started a new little place. i call it the secret cabinet of pomegranates.
i suppose i should describe it as a sort of scrapbook of visuals, a place for inner thoughts,
daily things and sorts. i have my twitter, brightkite and a couple of my tumblrs (fables & apothecary) streaming through there as well. if you would like to take a gander, please do and unlike tumblr (unless you add a html code separately) you can comment there and share posts.
just another place if you feel like perusing.

DSC00320

one last thing i have been meaning to share. i have GERD (Heartburn, Gastroesophageal Reflux, Acid Reflux) so i have some restrictions on what i can eat. now, i looooove tea but unfortunately, there are some out there i can no longer have (sigh). so....if anyone is interested, i have a bag load of teas to give away. they are in opened boxes or bags but if you would like them, they are yours.
here is what i have to give:
  • mighty leaf dragonwell
  • mighty leaf green blossom
  • mighty leaf chamomile citrus
  • mighty leaf calming moon
  • mighty leaf vibrance
  • celestial seasonings fruit tea sampler
  • celestial seasonings sugar cookie sleigh ride
  • celestial seasonings candy cane lane decaf green
  • celestial seasonings goji berry pomegranate green
  • celestial seasonings mandarin orange spice
  • ahmad tea english afternoon
so, again, if you are interested, just leave me a comment. i will wait until next wednesday and randomly pick.

i have created a new tumblr to showcase my love for little houses. houses have so much meaning for me and is a theme that is a constant in my dreams. they hold so much, so many stories, so many secrets. each having it's own history, it's own character. i made a little house for nat last december and i don't want it to be the last. the symbolism i associate with houses is endless and so i create paper cloth house (see site for links/credits to photos above). please come and see the collection of wonderful little houses and if you have any photos you would like to contribute, please email me at mylittlebighead@gmail.com.
