our painted rocks..
as our wednesday activity today, we painted a few smooth stones. using her tempera paints, i thought i would get into the activity to and started this owl (which lays next to a tiny black octopus paper garland i made a long time ago).
there are so many layers of color on the actual owl but i did end up liking the final result after all.
while she was waiting for her rocks to dry (with butterflies and hearts and so forth) i put together this little rock with a succulent and some rosemary for my friend yvette. i'm giving it to her on sunday along with pansy (bewitched mix) seeds i picked up earlier this week (they bloom in black and orange. i am hoping by the time october comes, we can put a few in pumpkins!)
the last rock she painted for the night was one that she previously had painted all black on. after it was dried she asked what she should paint on it. i told her to paint lupines on it like she did at school. they have finger painted lupines by dipping their fingers in white and then another color. since the rock was smaller, i told her she could paint it with q-tips. this is the result, which she said is a bouquet not lupines. i think it came out quite lovely.
my last rock (of the day) is what i call the coyote constellation rock. i think it's a little dreamy...

love this these look so nicely done too. rocks are the perfect canvas and so easy to come by, Iknow what we are doing today, we have one child not feeling so well and this will keep her happy for a while.
I agree with Toni that rocks make the best canvas! Your painted rocks are beautiful. I especially like the textures you and and your daughter achieved with the tempera paints.
Andrea !!! You are so talented, Honey-Bunny ...
I LOVE this owl stone (of course you knew I'd love this one, ha !) and the octopus garland is fab' !
